Simultaneous Interpreting
Smooth international communication
During simultaneous interpreting, the spoken word is translated into another language almost in real time. This demanding task requires a very high level of concentration, excellent language skills, and quick comprehension.Teamwork makes the dream work
As simultaneous interpreters, we usually work in soundproof booths at conferences, meetings, or international events. While the speaker is talking, we listen through headphones and translate what is being said with only a few seconds' delay. Teamwork is crucial here—we normally take turns every 20 to 30 minutes to prevent cognitive fatigue.
Chuchotage
Situations with few participants
Chuchotage, or whispered interpreting, is a special form of simultaneous interpreting that I use primarily when only one or two people require interpreting services. I sit directly next to the listener and whisper the translation quietly into their ear. This method is particularly suitable for small groups or confidential conversations.I don't usually need any technical equipment for this. However, whispered interpreting requires a certain finesse—my quiet voice must not interfere with the actual communication. It is a demanding but very direct and personal form of interpreting.
Consecutive Interpreting

When interpreting consecutively, I first actively listen to the speaker and take notes in order to then accurately convey the content into the target language. This interpreting technique is particularly well suited to smaller events, interviews, negotiations, or formal occasions where accurate and comprehensible communication is important. I work without technical equipment, which often makes the setting less complicated. However, this extends the overall duration, as each speaking slot is doubled.
Written translations
